In the early hours of Thursday, 4th April 2019, Malaysia Airlines MH130 diverted to Adelaide while en route from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur. The flight was operated by A330-200 9M-MTU. This was the aircraft’s first visit to Adelaide and just the second Malaysia Airlines A330-200 for Adelaide Airport. The Malaysia Airlines A330-200 is rare to Australia, as it has no scheduled flights here. All of Malaysia Airlines flights to Australia are either operated by B737-800 (Perth), A330-300 (Perth (seasonal), Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane), A350-900 (Sydney) or A380-800 (Sydney (seasonal)). The reason for the diversion was a medical emergency. 9M-MTU touched down in Adelaide at 2:11am (ACDT) and departed for Kuala Lumpur later the same day at 10:01am (ACDT) with the same callsign.
